This was an area located in Knoxville, Tennessee, that was considered undesirable as an outdoor space. The primary challenge I was faced with was a steep bank with Wesleyn Drive traffic just behind it. By adding soil on both ends of the hill and creating a curve effect, additional privacy from neighbors on each side was created, as well as an “outdoor room” effect. The curve in the bed area was an opportune location for a water feature, which generates enough natural sound to hide the noise of passing cars. This landscape was featured in “HGTV Ideas” magazine in the Summer 2008 edition.
